Jimi Tenor

Born in Finland, he took this alias because the tenor sax is his favorite instrument and because he looked like the singer Jimmy Osmond when he was a little boy. Between 1989 and 1992 he made four albums with the Shamans, a band that was very hard to find a market for. The noise they made beating empty dustbins and other things sadly did not bring him much success. Leaving Finland he ended up, via Portugal, in Berlin where he cut his last record with the Shamans before giving up music for awhile. He went to New York where he became a photographer taking pictures of tourists on top of the Empire State Building, dedicating his nights to more creative photography. He also made some truly weird films. In the meantime his musical style had also changed and in 1994 he cut his first solo album (Sähkömies), in which he plays sardonic and easy jazz. After a European tour and meeting Steve Beckett, his new record Intervision (1997) became a huge international hit and was followed by Organism (1999), Out of Nowhere (2000), Cosmic Relief and Utopian Dream (2001), Higher Planes (2003) and Beyond the Stars (2004).
