Nathalie Du Pasquier

Born in Bordeaux, France, in 1957. She has lived and worked in Milan since 1979.
Up to 1987 she worked as a designer, specializing in decorated surfaces. She is a founding member of the Memphis group. She has designed numerous fabrics and carpets but also objects and furniture both for Memphis and for other companies.
In 1987 she devoted herself almost entirely to painting, apart from some forays into ceramics. As well as design exhibitions, with and without Memphis, she regularly exhibits her paintings. Since 1989 she has exhibited her work at Le Cadre Gallery in Hong Kong on a yearly basis. In 1987 and 1994 she exhibited at the Galleria Jannone in Milan, and in 1993 the FruitMarket Gallery in Edinburgh dedicated a large exhibition to her work. She then exhibited at the Galleria Corraini in Mantua (1996), the Fenderesky Gallery in Belfast (1997), and the Galleria Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea in Milan (1996 and 1998).
She is especially interested in the ancient tradition of Chinese art, which concentrates above all on the meditative space between painter and spectator. Nathalie does not try to mirror Chinese painting but to create a similar dialogue, though remaining within the context of the European still life tradition.
